Topic A or Topic B
We are interested in the cooperation in three fields:
1. The development of the cascade processes using green chemistry strategies and methods for improved processing of the marine or lignocelullulose biomass.
2. Biotechnological approaches to transform bio-based building blocks into molecules in a sustainable way.
3. Use of bioinformatics tools for the modeling of metabolic pathway (datasets on genomics, phenomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and through models validations to forecast the outcomes of growth medium perturbations, feeding protocols, and process parameters such as temperature and pH, and thus to facilitate the productivity and quality of added value bio-products in industrial biotechnology.
The Department topics foremost include carbon dioxide and natural gas conversion, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, biomass valorization to bio-based compounds, and (bio)pharmaceutical processes. Currently, our department is involved in several Horizon 2020 projects as well as in Era-MarineBiotech project (Mar3Bio-Biorefinery and biotechnological exploitation of marine biomasses) and Era-Cobiotech project (Rhodolive-Biovalorization of Olive Mill Wastewater to Microbial Lipids and Other Products) and in several more national projects. Our department is a coordinator of the Interreg It-Sl project (BioApp-Transregional technology platform for the transfer of advanced biopolymers from research to market). Our department is equipped with specialized upstream and downstream laboratory and pilot scale equipment and analytics (NMR, FTIR-microscopy, SEM, TEM, XRD, HPLC, GC-MS, TG). More information about projects it can be found at https://www.ki.si/en/departments/d13-department-of-catalysis-and-chemical-reaction-engineering/projects/.
