Topic A: Microbial communities (natural or synthetic), co-cultures and cascades of microorganisms for new products, value-added products and supply services as well as sustainable industrial processes.
We are interested in joining a research project to develop new production routes for value added chemicals and materials from low-value / waste biomass streams. We have expertise in microbial gene expression control, with a specific focus on using synthetic biology bio-design concepts for the applications in biotechnology. This expertise and these technologies can be implemented for both sensing and production applications e.g. for i) the optimisation and development of enzymatic pre-treatment processes, and ii) recombinant protein production for individual enzymes and/or cascade pathway reactions. We also have experience in enzymatic pre-treatment of lignin biomass, carbohydrate esterases and hydrolases, and the optimisation of protein secretion from microbial hosts. https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/Neil.Dixon.html
